Get to know us Our vision & mission Jayaben Desai is one of our sheroes, a fearless woman we highlight on our Feminism for Change course. Driven by her commitment to ending the unfair treatment of overworked and underpaid women, especially those from Asian and African backgrounds, Desai led a movement that gave a voice to the outrage that was building around exploitation, poor working conditions, wage inequality, and institutionalised racism. Desai, along with many others who tirelessly fought for change, continues to inspire us as we pursue our own vision for creating the change we want to see in the world. OUR VISION A society where people with histories of trauma live with dignity and are able to fulfil their potential. OUR MISSION Using the transformative power of learning, we challenge how addiction and other responses to social inequality are addressed at an individual and systemic level. Sustaining recovery through systemic thinking We work with individuals who have experienced systemic oppression and discrimination — experiences that often create deep and complex trauma, limiting people’s ability to thrive. Substance use is one of many coping responses, yet mainstream treatment services frequently fail to address the root causes: the relationship between personal experience and wider social inequality, and how each reinforces the other. Our courses integrate ideas from psychology, philosophy, sociology, and feminist theory, alongside the practice of critical, systemic, and meta thinking. Through this process, participants gain a deeper and more accurate understanding of their lives. They begin to release shame, cultivate compassion for themselves and others, and build self-awareness and self-esteem — creating a stronger foundation on which to rebuild their futures. We know that real change requires more than individual transformation. Profound social change is needed to create a society where everyone can live with dignity, whatever their background or experiences. We’re committed to doing everything we can to make that a reality. “It is no surprise that FFC's participants show higher recovery rates than average, as FFC fosters a sense of value, self-worth, and community. After spending seven years researching addiction recovery on a global scale- I can honestly say that what FFC offers is one of the most impressive and genuine interventions available. The organisation fills a crucial gap within the sector by combining education of self with insights into the oppressive and complex political systems that fuel addiction and discrimination. This empowers participants not only to better understand themselves and their experiences of the world, but also to access education in a way that traditional systems do not accommodate.” - Funder Learn more about our courses. Our plans for the future We plan to replicate our unique approach in future, extending it to other sectors where individuals often struggle during the transition from services to society, such as those leaving prison, mental health services, or homelessness services. Our goal is to provide these individuals with the support needed to achieve better outcomes and build better futures for themselves and their families.
