Resilience is a word that’s at risk of being so over-used that its meaning is stripped away from it. But in many ways, it is the backbone of our work. It is the very foundation we support people to build as they move through our pathway.

The increasing levels of uncertainty, the fast pace of change, the unleashing of technologies we don’t fully understand, a world that is heating in terrifying ways, all require us to not just be resilient, but to cultivate a sense of curiosity and hope. We have the privilege of seeing this in action every day in our work and would like to share a slice of this with you in this newsletter.

OUR 12TH BIRTHDAY

As much as we love celebrating all that comes with another year of existence, our birthdays are our chance to celebrate what truly matters – our graduates. Three speakers took to the stage, their willingness to share overriding all their anxieties about public speaking, to talk about their incredible stories of transformation and change.

Amongst the challenges of a tube strike, the turnout was impressive, with the vast majority of guests being made up of graduates who are part of our growing FfC Community - many of whom resonated with the phenomenal experiences and life transformations that they heard.

It was a very special evening, full of joy, pride and togetherness. A huge thank you to everyone who joined us on the night, and who has supported us along the way.

COURSES, COMMUNITY AND IMPACT

Our most recent Psychology for Change course began a few weeks ago, and with it came a special milestone - our 30th course! It gave us an opportunity to reflect on the many incredible graduates who have journeyed through the programme, committing themselves to exploring challenging themes such as trauma, attachment theory, and the ways past experiences have shaped their lives.

Over the last 12-years, we have worked with some truly spectacular individuals and groups, many who stay in touch and share the ways they continue to live what they learnt during their time with us.

We are always moved by the level of optimism that graduates display at the end of our courses, all the more profound given the challenges of the current time. We don’t just see and feel this optimism, we measure it. Through our collection and analysis of pre and post course data, we consistently see increases in confidence, capability, and well-being - all which are sustained at 9-month follow-ups.

It’s when we see graduates in the months and years after completing courses - still holding onto that hope, taking learning into their lives and being active members of their families and community - we are reminded of exactly why this work needs to grow.

VALUE FOR MONEY

We often get asked about value for money. We think it’s pretty good!

Stopping using substances is just the beginning. The time after this is a crucial opportunity for deep learning and growth, where with specialist and intensive support someone can transform their lives and futures for good.

This is where the real value in what we do truly exists - people living safer, healthier and happier lives, full of possibility and hope for the future.

Funding for this stage of recovery is so essential, yet often undervalued and overlooked. What we offer fills a gap in recovery, and our unique approach to working with power, inequality and trauma, is at the heart of this.

BECOME A REGULAR DONOR

Demand for our courses is twice our current capacity. More people are ready for this work than we can currently reach.

Regular giving changes that. If you believe that recovery is more than just the absence of a relapse, and that everyone deserves to live with hope, please consider making a donation to our work.

Making a regular monthly donation helps to keep our courses free and reach more people who are ready to change their lives.
