Our first fundraiser On Saturday 5th July we held our very first fundraising event in Old St. Heaps of people showed up, showed support and dug deep into their pockets to help raise funds for the NEXT Project. The evening included speeches from people who'd completed the course, giving everyone a sense of how it helped change their lives, as well as live music, a charity auction, and a raffle. It would be an understatement to say that we were blown away by people’s generosity and warmth, and reminded of just what can be achieved when people connect and come together for a cause. It also helped raise awareness of substance misuse and hopefully showed that the cliche of what the average drug user or alcoholic is like is just that, a cliche. It seems that most people nowadays know someone who has experienced dependency on drugs or alcohol. It was a massively successful evening with £1690 raised on the night alone. We also raised £475 online, bringing the total £2165. The plan had been to use the money raised to fund one person through the NEXT Project. We’re happy to say that we managed to do this as well as source additional funds to cover transport expenses, which has reduced our overhead expenditure for this intake of graduates. All this means, we are able to fund four people on the course starting next week instead of just one. A huge thank you to everyone who came on the night or who has donated money, time, and energy to help us set up Foundation for Change and launch our first ever NEXT group under the new charity.
