Reflecting on our 10th year As the nights draw in and the leaves have fallen from the trees, we’re heading to the end of 2024 feeling incredibly proud and satisfied at what we’ve achieved this past year. We’re very close to completing our last intake of Psychology for Change, and after a rich and full year, we are all feeling ready to hibernate, recharge and restore ahead of 2025. We hope you enjoy reading about what we’ve been up to since the summer. WE TURNED 10! In October, we celebrated our 10th anniversary with our biggest event yet—a joyful gathering of graduates, supporters, and donors who have been part of our journey over the past decade. This special evening included a celebration of the Foundation for Change Approach, which was marked by documenting our unique methodology for the first time. We also heard from three of our graduates, about how they had experienced our approach, and the transformational ways in which they had taken their learning into the next part of their lives. Founder and CEO, Bob Bharij, closed out the ceremony by acknowledging the incredible journey the last ten years has been and looking forward to the next chapter of FfC. Read the full write-up of the event here. MEASURING OUR IMPACT This year we have focussed on strengthening the ways we demonstrate and communicate our impact. This has led to us finishing a huge piece of work, collating and analysing our pre, post and 9-month follow-up course data, from the last four years. We understand the importance of being data-informed, both to prove how deeply transformative our work is for people who participate on our courses, as well as to help us learn and improve what we do. We also apply our power and trauma-informed ethos to the ways we collect information, ensuring that the questions we ask, and how we ask them, are clear, transparent, respectful and, are relevant to generate further insight. The results from 2021 – 2024 speak for themselves—here’s a snapshot: In 2025, we will be consolidating our data for the years 2014 – 2021 in order to map the impact we’ve had over a full decade. Watch this space! SPACE FOR CHANGE We were thrilled to be one of three organisations selected for a year’s membership to Derwent London’s lounges. This incredible opportunity grants us free access to their meeting rooms, workspaces, a discounted café, and an inspiring calendar of workshops and talks. The initiative, fittingly named Space for Change, felt like it was tailor-made for us—how could we resist applying for something so perfectly aligned with our own name? This isn’t our first collaboration with Derwent. They’ve previously funded intakes for our Psychology and Feminism for Change courses. As champions of connection and collaboration, we’re delighted to see our relationship with Derwent continue to flourish. Here’s to a year of change! COURSE'S AND FFC COMMUNITY We are now over halfway through our final Psychology for Change course of the year, which takes us to a total of having delivered three Psychology and two Feminism for Change courses over 2024. We have also delivered three of our one-day sessions, held four community events for graduates of our courses this year and written a variety of blogs to inspire further learning, creativity, and critical thinking. We’re particularly proud of the way our FfC Community has developed this year, and the ways it supports individuals from different intakes to come together, create and cultivate new social connections – something that was evident at our recent community picnic, which we held in the stunning gardens at Shoreditch Church, where we are based. We remain deeply inspired by the courage and determination of our trainees and graduates, as they look inward and commit to the challenging yet transformative work of personal growth. A difficult yet rewarding process that starts from the moment someone reaches out to us, intensifies through their time on our courses, and is reinforced as part of our community. Through this we have the honour and pleasure of witnessing people gain a clearer understanding of their strengths and recognise the resilience that has carried them to where they are today. DONATE & SUPPORT OUR WORK We rely on grants and donations to continue our crucial work. Your support, through one-off donations or standing orders, mean the world to us and are vital in helping us reach more people. If you can, please consider donating to support us in delivering our unique approach with people in recovery. Donate here.
